Geocache Description:

A cache celebrating the Thistle Inn and its most famous (apocryphal) patron.

The Thistle Inn, built in 1840, is the oldest hotel in New Zealand still trading from its original site. Originally the Thistle was only metres from the shoreline, and patrons often arrived by boat.

The story goes that renowned Ngati Toa chief Te Rauparaha would pull up his waka right outside the pub, wander in and order a whiskey and no one had the gumption to charge him. Te Rauparaha is perhaps most famous for composing "Ka Mate", the haka made famous by the All Blacks.

The cache is a camoed bison containing only a log sheet, so you will have to bring your own pen. You will need to be stealthy, as the area is frequented by public servant muggles.
