Okra,

I did a little research on Barnumtown at the State Historical Society here in Columbia for your cache, Barnumtown, MO ( GC344J2 ). The town's post office was established on May 14, 1867, with Enoch Barnum named as postmaster. It's safe to assume he was the namesake of the town as he had a rather sizable landholding nearby. Unfortunately, it's unlikely he is buried in the cemetery as he moved out of the area not long after the town was founded. ( But perhaps it's worth a look anyway; Descendants? ) Nearby industry included the Osage Iron Works 5 miles to the north. ( More information on the Osage Iron Works can be found here: Here ) One local landmark probably long gone was the hull of an old keel boat said to have been abandoned by French traders fleeing Indians.

Wish I had more but this was all I could find. If anything, there may be a few leads here to follow. :)

Laters,

Unitzoid
