The walk will take you through Redwoods, Gum Trees and regenerating native bush. There are many fine examples of Cyathea dealbata, aka ponga and Cyathea Medullaris (Mamaku) present. The visual difference between these two species of tree ferns is that the ponga has silvery white undersides to its fronds. They can grow to 10 metres in height and often form a 'bushmans hut' at their base of inverted dead fronds - very warm and dry in an emergency.
