An diesem Standort findet Ihr zwei Bodenprofile direkt nebeneinander, wie sie im Münsterland oft zu finden sind. Es handelt sich um einen Podsol und einen daraus durch den Menschen entwickelten Plaggenesch. Der Podsol zeigt den typischen Boden, wie er sich nach der Eiszeit aus den kalk- und nährstoffarmen Sandböden entwickelt hat. Durch Jahrhunderte langem Auftrag von humusreichen und mit Tierexkrementen angereicherten Plaggen aus Gras- oder Heidesoden zur Verbesserung des Nährstoff- und Wasserhaushalts entstand aus dem Podsol der Plaggenesch. Als Relikt einer heute nicht mehr betriebenen Bewirtschaftungsform ist der Plaggenesch als Archiv der Natur- und Kulturgeschichte ein besonders schutzwürdiger Boden, wie er nur in wenigen Gebieten in Nordwestdeutschland vorkommt.
Der Bodenlernstandort wurde durch eine Initiative der Universität Osnabrück und dem Umweltamt Kreis Steinfurt unter Mithilfe der Gemeinde Lienen zur Verbesserung des Boden(schutz)bewusstsseins erstellt.
Das Umweltamt bietet für Vorschulkinder, Schulklassen und anderen interessierten Gruppen auf Nachfrage kostenlose Führungen an (Kontakt: 02551 / 69-2540).

Ground learning site Kattenvenne
At this site you will find two soil profiles adjacent to one another as they are often found in the Münsterland. The first one shows the typical podzol soil, as he has evolved after the Ice Age, from the lime-and nutrient-poor sandy soils. The second is a Plaggen soil. By centuries of raising the ground with long and rich in humus and enriched with animal excrement sods of grass or heather sods to improve nutrient and water balance in the podzol by man, the soil developed to Plaggen Soil. As a relic of a no longer powered form of farming is the Plaggen soil an archive of natural and cultural history that occurs only in a few areas in northwest Germany. For this case, it belongs to the soils who are worthy of protection.
The soil study site was an initiative by the University of Osnabrück, the Environment Agency of the district government of Steinfurt and the town of Lienen to improve soil (protection) awareness.
The Environment Agency provides for preschool children, school groups and other interested groups free tours by demand (contact: 02551 / 69-2540).
