Wooddale Bridge - Red Clay Creek
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is hidden on the Wooddale Covered Bridge in the Red Clay Creek Valley. The container is large enough to hold multiple travel bugs. It is strongly suggested that you NOT search for this cache between dusk and dawn as locals are sensitive to any suspicious activity in or near the bridge.
View photos of the bridge (listed below or click on View Gallery above). The current Wooddale Bridge replaced the original Town Lattice Truss covered bridge (ca. 1850) which was destroyed by flooding in
2003. As the bridge provides access to multiple homes in Wooddale, DelDOT installed a Steel Acrow bridge soon after the flood while planning of a permanent replacement bridge was reviewed. The cache is hidden on the bridge but does not require any climbing or getting wet. This cache is not meant to be challenging, but rather to celebrate the wisdom of planners to replace a historic bridge with a similar structure instead of a simple steel and concrete structure, and to provide a travel bug / swag cache in an area lacking. Please take care to replace the cache container exactly as found and not allow the container to fall into the creek below.
There are two parking areas for a few cars. (Location #: 1 N 39 45.920, W 075 38.251; Location # 2: N 39 45.902, W 075 8.273) just up the road from the bridge. Do Not park at the bridge and block the roadway or near the Wilmington & Western railroad crossing on the north end of the bridge. This is a great location to view the passing of the Wilmington & Western as it travels up the Red Clay Creek Valley. For the FTF, there is a Travel Bug dog tag which has not been activated.
Congratulations to Iloveoutdoors for FTF; and g'daycutter for STF !!
