Painted and camoed pill bottle hidden in a natural surronding. It is best to approach GZ from Mercury Boulevard.
This strange curved grass path is the remant of the south or east leg of the old wye on the Hampton Branch of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway which replaced the turntable once in place where the Phoebus baseball diamond is now. Locomotives (they were all steam) going to Fort Monroe, Phoebus, or Buckroe Beach were turned on this wye for their return trip. The track going to Buckroe actually belonged to the trolley company, but interchanged with the C&O and was heavy enough for the J-3 and J-3a class Greenbriars to pull specials from Richmond to the beach during the summer.
The cache is big enough for the log and some small SWAG. BYOP and PLEASE return the cache as found. There is evidence of homeless activity in the vicinity, so please do not attempt this at night.
Based on the high powered DNF's, I've raised the difficulty a point. I have also moved the co-ordinates just a little.
Cachers unfamiliar with railroad terminology have looked on the net for the location of the “fireman’s side.” In some instances they have found a misleading, though currently correct, definition. In the early days of diesels, the engineer and the fireman stil stood or sat on the historic side of the locomotive. When road switchers came along - the normal configuration of today’s locomotives, the cab sits in between, with a short hood in one direction and a long hood in the other. At first the locomtive ran long hood forward, just like a steam locomotive. But it soon became apparent that visibility was better running with the short hood in front, So soon most ran short hood forward. But the already established sides of the cab remained the same. Therefore, if you readabout the location of the fireman for a DIESEL locomotive, it will be opposite for a steam locomotive. Alternatively, you can run a query for “fireman’s side of a steam locomotive.”
Make sense? I hope so. High balls to you.
