You are seeking a painted pill holder that is just hanging around waiting for you. BYOP.
After you make the grab and sign the log, stroll about a hundred feet to the south on County Line Road and in the east bank of the road, you will see the reason you were brought to this place. Exposed in the roadcut you can see layers of of weathered rock and saprolite. Saprolite is a term used for material that has the consistency of soil, but retains the relic structure of the parent rock. The rock, gneiss (pronounced "nice") and schist, has been completely altered by chemical weathering in our humid climate. Here you can see an excellent example of a drag fold adjacent to a small fault where the rock layers are truncated. Numerous folds are also visible in the exposure. Try to imagine these rocks being buried thousands of feet below the surface, where they were exposed to tremendous heat and pressure such that under stress they deformed like plastic. The stresses applied were associated with the building of the Appalachian Mountains, when this area probably resembled the Himalayas of today.
Continue to the south another hundred feet or so, and look at the road cut in the area of the power pole. Here you can see the bed of an ancient creek channel marked by a layer of gravel. The creek now located to the north, probably once flowed here.
