This small mountain in Clay County is home to many curious tales
from a hanging tree to death via stoning. However, the most
notorious tale is of a man, his wife, a servant girl, and a nurse.
Legend has it that a wealthy, prestigious couple moved into the
area many years ago. The wife was with child but shortly after they
settled into the area, the new servant girl was also found to be
with child. Soon after, the wife fell ill and a local nurse was
hired to care for her but did not succeed. Once the wife passed
away, the nurse and the man were married but despite many tries,
they were never able to have children. Rumor has it that the reason
for the infertility was a curse for their wrongdoings. It is also
said that a pregnant woman in white haunts Twistabout Ridge and
infant screams can also be heard.
Please use etiquette and be courteous when geocaching and place the
container exactly where you found it. If there are any problems
with the cache including maintenance alerts, please inform
ExploreWV as soon as possible. Do not wander far from the cache
site and be aware that some of these locations may not be suitable
for the faint of the heart.
This cache was formerly part of the ExploreWV Haunted WV Challenge. The cache was originally placed and maintained by botanycreek, the cache owner, and was adopted by him at the end of the challenge
