Cette ancienne écluse du canal de Berry nous
rappelle une histoire qui eut lieu durant la deuxième guerre
mondiale. 1943, la France est occupée par l’Allemagne
d’Hitler. A Montluçon, il y a l’usine Dunlop qui
fabrique des pneus et que les allemands ont réquisitionnée. Les
alliés décident donc de priver l’Allemagne de cette usine par
un bombardement massif. Dans la nuit du 15 au 16 septembre 1943,
l’aviation anglaise vient bombarder l’usine Dunlop à
Montluçon avec 348 avions. Malheureusement, deux avions Strirling
sont touchés par la DCA allemande et un s’écrasera à
proximité de l’Ecluse des Roussets causant la mort de ses
sept aviateurs anglais.. L’autre avion aura plus de chance
car il alla s’écraser à la Forêt de Tronçais et les hommes
qui constituaient l’équipage purent survivre et rejoindre les
résistants français.

This old canal lock Berry reminds us of a story
that took place during World War II. 1943, France was occupied by
Hitler's Germany. A Montluçon, there is the factory that
manufactures Dunlop tires and the Germans have requisitioned. The
allies decided then to deprive Germany of the plant by a massive
bombardment. On the night of 15 to 16 September 1943, the RAF
bombed the factory Dunlop comes in Montlucon with 348 aircraft.
Unfortunately, two aircraft Strirling are affected by German gun
and crashed near "Ecluse des Roussets" killing its seven British
airmen .. The other aircraft is more lucky because it went crashing
to the forest of "Tronçais" and men who made up the crew could
survive and join the French Resistance
