Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Sundance Geocache Roundup! Stop by the Sundance Museum to pick up a passport and let the fun begin! Or, you can download the passport at: (visit link)

We have permission from the owner to place the cache at this location. . The historical 115-year old store is preserved and operated as an example of the 1890’s classic general store.

In the early 1880’s two CA professors discovered coal near this store’s location and they set up a tent city. To inspire good luck and riches the camp was named for the character, (Aladdin), who comes into possession of a magic lamp in the “Arabian Nights”. Records show that the property now known as the town of Aladdin was originally patented by Amos Robinson on November 12, 1894. Robinson built the store in 1896 as the Wyoming Mercantile. Through the years the Aladdin Store has housed a general store, a post office, a bar, a barber shop, a telephone office, and served as a depot, freight station, and gas station. In 1901, the now defunct Wyoming and Missouri Valley Railroad reached Aladdin, transporting the lumber, coal, and cattle from Aladdin to Belle Fourche, SD. The railroad ceased operation in 1927. Two miles east of the store is the “Aladdin Tipple”, a structure to load coal directly from a mine into the railroad cars. You will want to check out the Aladdin Tipple Cache at (GC GY43).

You will find a parking place between the bright red store and the salt shed. The container is not hidden under the building or in the building. Please search for this only during daylight hours so as not to cause concern among the neighbors.
The container is an ammo box with trade items and a container for the letter box. Thanks and have a great caching day!
