On the Riverwalk by the Muskegon river, just above the site of former Big rapids dam. You can see part of the old dam's foundations and read about the whys and hows of its removal south of this site, at 43 42.630, 085 28.928. From here on north, much of the terrain was once submerged in the backwaters of the dam. If you've followed the trail for a while , you'll notice the flat land and the absence of large trees.
Look for a former grated cheese shaker, covered in camo tape. Do not be distraced by decoy hiding places.Take care of the slope as you approach: it's a bit deceptive when covered with greenery.
