Welcome to the Bureau of Metorology - Mt Isa. This is a nice easy cache which can be accessed 24 hours a day.
The BOM office at Mt Isa conducts tours. If you are lucky enough to be in town on a Wednesday (at the time of approval of the cache) you can join a morning tour with the meteorological observer as they take their morning readings. It's more interesting than you'd think and the kids (if you have them) will get a lot out of it.
At 0915hrs EST the automated balloon launcher will launch a hydrogen weather balloon & sonde which broadcasts weather & wind data back to the site for approximately 1 1/2 hours before the balloon bursts in the stratosphere and the sonde plummets back to earth!
You can see the balloon launch any day of the week from the cache site at 0915 EST.
