For our anniversary, my wife suggested we go someplace romantic. I thought that sounded nice. So I went around to several friends and got their input as to the most romantic place on earth. Nearly everyone suggested Venice. "You just gotta go there!" HuntHounds said. "Your wife'll love you forever if you take her to Venice! The gondola ride along the canals with the gondolier singing will have her eating out of your hand!"
Well, HH has never steered me wrong before, so I immediately looked into places to stay. It was no small feat, but I managed to get us into a nice little motel not too far away, a romantic-sounding inn called the Mountair Motel. There were even some nice-sounding places to eat nearby too, like the Little Wonder cafe. My wife and I talked about nothing else for weeks - the shopping, the wonderful cafes, but mostly we talked about the gondolas. We could hardly wait to ride in one!
Finally the big day arrived! We packed the car and headed out. In what seemed like no time at all, we arrived in the beautiful city of Venice. There were so many canals, and the local wildlife was amazing. I looked over to see the glow on my wife's face, but all I saw was confusion with maybe a hint of anger. She looked at me, and the only thing she could say with all this wonderment around her was, "Buh, but where's the gondola?"
