Geocache Description:

This monumental and religious setting is situated at the edge of the Sierra Espuña in the city of Totana. It has been an official cultural monument since 2002. The sanctuary goes back to mediaval times when the Santiago Horsemen brought their devotion to Santa Eulalia to this area. The original building was a small hermitage rebuilt in the 16th century to take care of the many people that visited the sanctuary and prayed for the martyr.

Santa Eulalia, from the latin 'The Well Speaker', became a martyr at the age of 12 in the year 304 in Mérida. She has been the local saint of Totana since 1644. The city of Totana has been twinned with the city of Mérida since 2003 due to Santa Eulalia. This is celebrated with local festivals between the 8th of December and the 7th of January.
