Geocache Description:

The cache is on a bridleway a short distance from the road. There is parking on the road, it is nice and quiet when you are off the road with very few muggles.

Hornsea Mere is generally described as the largest natural freshwater lake in Yorkshire[1] and lies to the west of Hornsea in the East Riding. It covers an area of 467 acres (1.89 km2), is 2 miles (3.2 km) long, ¾ mile at its widest point and 12 feet (3.7 m) at its deepest point. It is a popular tourist attraction offering visitors rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing.
Hornsea Mere is the home of Hornsea Sailing Club.[2]
It is also a Special Protection Area as a result of its shallowness that results in a diverse range of swamp and fen plants. It hosts many species of birds throughout the year and is of international importance for a migratory population of gadwall.
It was featured on the BBC television programme Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of Yorkshire.[3]
