This is a series dedicated to some of the games we may have played as kids. The names are mostly a play on words concerning a business or locale nearby.
What’s Wild?! is a great new game for families and kids – It's a rummy-based card game safari for 2-7 players ages 7 and up. Collect hands full of herds and caravans over the course of 10 rounds of play and be the player with the least amount of points at the end to win! But be careful…the wild card may change when you least expect it, and you’ll be left to ask, “What’s Wild?!”
Ages 7 and up
Players 2 to 7
Playing Time 30 minutes
What's Wild?! is a card game based on the classic card game Rummy. Use your animal instinct to survive 10 rounds of play. The player with the lowest score wins the game.
Cards are suited by four animal prints: alligator, cheetah, peacock, and zebra. Cards are numbered 1 - 12. Wild cards and chameleon cards can give you an advantage during the game.
The four wild cards can be used as any regular card in the game. There are also four chameleon cards that are used to change the numeric value of a played wild card. The only time a chameleon card can be picked up from the discard pile is when it is the first card at the beginning of the round. The player whose turn is right after a chameleon card is played must draw a card.
Play begins by dealing each player three cards. On their turn, players can either take the top card of the discard pile or draw a card. Then they must discard a card. Play continues until someone 'goes wild.' To 'go wild,' players must have three cards that are either of the same herd or the same caravan.
Herds are cards that are the same number, regardless of skin. If a player had the 5 of peacocks, 5 of alligators, and the 5 of zebras, then they would have a herd.
Caravans consist of three cards of the same skin in numerical order. So, if a player had the 5, 6, and 7 of zebras, then they would have a caravan.
Once someone goes wild and after their hand is checked to make sure that is the case, the other players have a round to play to try to get rid of any high scoring cards left in their hand. Then players tally their score, all cards are shuffled, and then the next round begins.
Players are dealt an additional card each round of play, making the game increasingly more difficult and fun.
What's Wild?! features fun, colorful cards and is an easy game to teach to others. It also can be a fun card game for family game night since it should be a lot of fun for the kids and adults alike.
