The walnut trees along Walnut St. were planted by one of the early settlers of Marion. William Shreves planted the trees in the 1880s and most of them still survive today. Walnut St. was named by the long row of walnut trees on the east side. Take some time and check out the limestone carvings in the front yard that were done in 1882. The stones came from the old Marion National Bank that was demolished in 1982. You can see some similar stones on the buildings still standing along Main St. There are impressive carvings of lime stone on the Court House on S. 3rd. St. A $5 bill for the first to find.
Enjoy,
Martman
