Hagler Cemetery is a few acre, rural cemetery located within
Madison County, IL and the back roads of Troy, Illinois.
Unfortunately vandals over the years have taken a toll on this nice
cemetery. If you have the means and will to re-align some of the
stones, feel free to do so.
Parking is recommended at the given parking area ONLY, with a
short walk in to the cache site. One of the headstones here, is
that of Revolutionary War Veteran, Laban Smart. His actual grave
site is in the former Smart Family Cemetery, just a short distance
away in a nearby farmers field. Picture is attached as to not
disturb that site. Ironically enough, there are different dates of
death between the two headstones.
Please be respectful of the NO NIGHT CACHING philosophy within
not only this cemetery, but with all cemeteries. MadCem is a
continuation with planting Madison County, IL cemeteries, as well
as share some of the historical sites throughout the area. If you
are interested in helping with this initiative, contact
docster68.
At Hagler, Smart has a traditional service stone, but the dates are
different than that of the old Smart Family Cemetery. This is all
that remains of the Smart Family Cemetery, a stone and surveyors
marker.
