Prepare to hike. Allow yourself 4 hours to be conservative. The peak near this cache will offer a fantastic 360 degree view of the Kooyoora State Park. Visible will be Mount Brenanah, Mount Korong, Mount Kooyoora summit and Melville Cave and more.
Before white settlement, this land was inhabited by the Jaara Jaara people.
White settlement in the 1840's named a large area (from Newbridge, Bridgewater and maybe Wedderburn) "Catto's Run". Ancestors of "John" Catto still live in this district.
There are two stories regarding what happened to the Jaara Jaara people, maybe both are partially correct.
One version is that many of the Jaara Jaara were slaughtered in the location of the Sunday Morning Hills - Mount Brenanah area. Mt Brenanah is 4 km north of the cache location.
The second version of the Jaara Jaara peoples demise is, that many were relocated to a station not far from Mount Korong (approx 15km from Mt Kooyoora), visible in the distance on the right of Mt Brenanah. The Jaara Jaara people moved from this station to Swan Hill, according to some locals.
Mount Kooyoora has evidence of the Jaara Jaara people. There are paintings and evidence of trees being used to carve out bark dishes and shields.
