Lauriston Castle was built by Archibald Napier, father of John Napier, the inventor of logarithms, in about 1590. The Japanese Garden was designed by Takashi Sawano and opened in 2002. It is a symbol of the special friendship that exists between the cities of Edinburgh and Kyoto.
The design contains a number of different elements and exploits the fabulous views of the Firth of Forth to the North.
One day a year the park plays host to Davidson’s Mains Children’s Gala, a great fun event run by the local community since 1932. Visit the website at www.dmainsgala.org.uk for details.
Opening times for the park have changed. It now opens at 7.30 am Monday to Friday and 9 am on Saturdays and Sundays. Closing time is 5 pm every day.
The cache itself is an unconventional container in a sneaky spot. The container is delicate so please be careful with it and replace it exactly where you found it. Please do not give any clues about the nature of the cache container in your logs.
It is our first cache so any feedback would be most welcome.
Many thanks to the Head of the Parks Dept., City of Edinburgh Council, for permission to place the cache
Please remember to bring a pen.
