Geocache Description:

This event will provide an introduction to geocaching and an opportunity to go out and hunt for some temporary caches hidden just for this event.

This introduction to geocaching will take place in the fellowship hall at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 445 E Stop 11 Rd. The start time will be 4:00pm.

People of all ages - both veteran geocachers and total newcomers are encouraged to attend. There will be an introductory presentation to explain geocaching to newcomers. Veteran geocachers are encouraged to attend to share their stories about geocaching and to help serve as guides for newcomers. Following the presentation, participants will form teams with both veterans and newcomers on each team. The teams will go out to hunt for temporary geocaches hidden specifically for this event. All caches will be within walking distance and will be planned to expose newcomers to a variety of different types of hides.

*** Update on 10/4/11 *** There will also be some temporary hides in Glenns Valley Park just a couple of miles down the road from the event in case some participants want more of an "in the wild" geocaching experience!

*** Late breaking update on 10/15 *** A package arrived in the mail today from one of the geocaching websites with some lanyards, geocoins, and TB tags - so now there will be a raffle with some prizes!

Prior to going out to play, event participants may contribute cash to a pot to order pizza. After playing for a while, participants will return to the fellowship hall at about 6pm for pizza and sharing stories - or perhaps begin searching for published geocaches.

Newcomers are encouraged to bring a GPS receiver if they have one, or a smart phone. A handout will be available on how to use a smart phone for geocaching. A veteran geocacher may be able to answer questions about GPS receivers.

A couple computers will be available for browsing geocaching.com and a wireless hotspot will be set up to allow event participants to access the internet.

*** Update on 10/14/11 *** An article ran in the Daily Journal yesterday about geocaching featuring us and jenischmeni.
