Metasequoia glyptostroboides
Der Urweltmammutbaum (Metasequoia glyptostroboides), auch Chinesisches Rotholz, Metasequoie oder Wassertanne genannt, gilt als lebendes Fossil.
Er wurde erst im Jahre 1941 in einer unzugänglichen Bergregion in China entdeckt und war zuvor nur durch Fossilienfunde bekannt. Er ist die einzige rezente Art der Gattung Metasequoia.
