How quickly is technology moving
these days? It seems
that electronics that are “brand new” and “the
latest thing” are out of date within 6 months. There is a theory called
“Accelerating Change” which you can read it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerating_change.
Anyway this predicts an ever increasing speed in change of
technology.
In the case of the iPhone the
change and popularity has been staggering. The release in 2007 has been
described as one of the top 10 news stories of the
decade. People camped
out for days outside Apple stores for the first model
iPhone. Since then we
have 4 models in 4 years, the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G, the
iPhone 3Gs and now the iPhone 4. You can find the details at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_devices
Now there are news stories about
the new iPhone 5 which is due for release shortly. Sometimes the pace of the change
makes you remember with great affection the days before
iPhones, bar code scanners and
computerised everything.
Please note that the South 42
and East 147 are not in the solution, but are to be taken as a
given.
