The lock gate (koumon) is an institution to allow a ship to pass two rivers different in the height of the surface of the water. Arakawa lock gate is the lock gate which links Kyu-Nakagawa to Arakawa. It is aimed for connection of the Sumidagawa and the Arakawa,and securing of waterway traffic in region where water level lowers by subsidence across Sumida Ward, Koto Ward, and Edogawa Ward placed between Arakawa and Sumidagawa.

荒川ロックゲート
ロックゲート（閘門）とは、水面の高さが違う2つの川を船が通行出来るようにするための施設のことです。荒川ロックゲートは、荒川と旧中川を結ぶロックゲートです。荒川と隅田川の連絡、荒川と隅田川に挟まれた、墨田区、江東区、江戸川区にまたがる地盤沈下により水位の低くなった地域の水上交通の確保を目的としています。
