A 2 mile walk from Thornhill village to the Muir Dam. The local community (TCT Access group) has worked hard to make sure this right of way has been retained. This is now one of Stirling Council's Core Paths, although don't be fooled into thinking it is going to be a tarmac motorway of a path.
Boots / wellies definitely required!
The farm here; Mackreiston gets its name from the ancient scots naming of a place 'toun' (ton) after the people who were first there, in this case the MacRaes from about the C15th.
There are a large number of 'toun' (ton) names within a 5km radius of Thornhill which shows it was a Scots speaking community in the C15th rather than the gaelic speaking ones of a few miles North.
The cache is at the start of the Muir Dam path off the farm track signposted to Mackrieston, just East of the church hall.
A nice easy one to start you. Please replace carefully as it is right next to the path.
