Unitzoid's Benchmark Wherigo Cache

This cache has been archived.

Unitzoid: Milestones come and go, and this Wherigo has seen a handful of geocachers take up the challenge. At least one and a half per year were successful in meeting my benchmark. Alas, with such a low turnout, it's probably time to open up the trail for another hide or two. Thank you to everyone that came out to ride the MKT. [:)]

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates! Further, a bicycle is required to complete this Wherigo (which can be downloaded here).

Once a spur for the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad, the MKT trail connects Columbia to the Katy Trail about nine miles away in McBaine, Missouri. The length and even surface makes it an ideal place to hold a race. Well, a moderately paced race in any case, between Forum and Scott Boulevards.

The rules are straight forward:

  • The race begins at the underpass for either Forum or Scott Boulevard. Activating the Wherigo cartridge can be done at any time, but the stopwatch will not start until you are at one of the beginning points. A message will tell you when the clock starts.
  • Unitzoid finished in eleven and a half minutes on a clear trail. Since the trail can be busy, the time to beat is rounded up to 13 minutes. This shouldn't be hard to beat at a moderate pace.
  • City ordinances apply. Keep to the right, give an audible signal prior to passing, ride single file and operate at a reasonable and prudent speed. Riding really fast is not recommended as it may endanger others.
  • Progress will be tracked on the Wherigo cartridge; so, driving from one trailhead to another will not reveal the cache's location.

Speaking of the geocache, the container is hidden on a bench along the trail. It is feasible to find it through brute force; however, there are many, many benches along the MKT. The best way to locate the cache is by running the Wherigo.

Good luck!
