Longacre Wood Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

Geocache Description:

A beautiful walk through a woodland full of wildlife.

Longacre wood is the western half of what was formerly Square Mile Wood. It is currently owned and maintained by Gateshead Council and is public land.

Longacre Wood is a magnificent specimen of nature and as it is carefully managed, it is full of a variety of plants, trees and animals. When I walk through here, it's often in the winter as it makes a lovely short winter stroll with the GeoDogs- just enough before the dark nights set in, I don't see much however I know many people who visit the wood during the summer and they say they often spot Red Squirrels, Deer and, of course, Rabbits! I do however, make time to visit at least once during the spring to see the Bluebell Show- one of the best examples in the North East, I think.

The cache is located in the upper section of the woodland- off the main path but not too far! The container is a small box with the usual array of trinkets- it has been placed here to encourage more people into the top section of the woods rather than the conventional bottom end. :-) Could you please watch for muggles- they can see you as they walk down and bikers often come here to off-road so be aware! The coords may be a tad off due to the tree cover but I have tried.

As always, we gratefully appreciate any OTS maintenance and people rehiding the container as found!

Happy Hunting!
