The village of Hailey is 2 miles to the north of Witney. It
developed from a clearing in the forest of Wychwood and this gave
the name of Hay Lea, meaning Hay Meadow in old English.
Many of the houses were built in the 17th and 18th centuries
using local limestone, and they remain almost unchanged since then.
Hailey Church was built in the 1860s, replacing an older 17th
century building that was in disrepair.
What drew me to it was the unusual tower.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I
would just ask that you could let
Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church
numbers and names to avoid duplication.
