This trail is dedicated to some of the Mississippi State sports greats that have passed through campus over the years.
D. D. LEWIS - Football - 1965-67
• Led MSU in tackles and assists all three of his varsity seasons
• Named captain his senior year
• All-SEC honors twice
• First team All-American selection his senior year
• Top linebacker in the SEC
• Selected to play in the Senior Bowl, Coaches All-Star Game, and the Blue-Gray Game where he was named to the Hall of Fame
• Drafted in the 6th round by the Dallas Cowboys
• One of eight NFL players who have played in five Super Bowls (V, VI, X, XII and XIII)
• Intercepted two passes in the 1975 NFC Championship game – helped the Cowboys became the first wild-card team to make the Super Bowl
• Voted Most Popular Player by Cowboys fans
• Bart Star Meritorious Award
• Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, 1987
• Cowboys Silver Anniversary Team, 1984
• College Football Hall of Fame, 2001
During the 1982 season, Lewis famously reasons that “Texas Stadium has a hole in its roof so God can watch his favorite team play.”
