The drop at Pipeline is almost always late, and critical, with
the wave jacking up much bigger by the time you get to the bottom.
Wave selection can be key because not every wave is makeable.
When the swell gets over 6-8 feet, pipeline starts breaking from
the second and third reef, allowing a easier take-off at times,
which gives the rider time to set-up for when it hits the first
reef and starts to barrel.
Pipe is not a place for beginners, with a defined pecking order
when it gets really good.
