Hazlehead Park is a large public park in the Hazlehead area of Aberdeen, Scotland. 180 hectares in size, it was opened to the public in 1920, having formerly been the estate of Hazlehead House, home of William Rose, shipbuilder. There are football pitches, two golf courses, a pitch and putt course and a horse-riding school. The park has a significant collection of sculpture by a range of artists, including the memorial to those who lost their lives in the Piper Alpha disaster. It also has heritage items which have been rescued from various places within the city, and it features Scotland's oldest maze, first planted in 1935. It also contains a petting zoo, with Alpacas and Donkeys to name a few. You do have to pay to see them. You will be able to hear the donkey from the cache if he is cooperating on the day.
Updated: In the last year the council has handed over control of the park to the group Friends of Hazlehead. They are busy restoring the park to its former glory. The pets corner is also due to receive a cash boost to bring it up to date. The new cafe/ restaurant has just reopened and there is a wee hut to provide food and drinks to tired park goers in search of refreshment. Please have a good wander around the park and most importantly enjoy yourself.
This cache meets urban placement guideline.
