Geocache Description:

simple-ish cache and dash nano in the village/town of Mitcheldean. Whilst there are caches located around the village, there were none in the town/village itself...until now!

St Michael and All Angels church in Mitcheldean dates back to the Norman period, although the only remaining proof of this is the base to the font. The extant architecture of the Church itself begins around the 13th Century, with various alterations and 'improvements' continuing through into the Victorian period.

The Church is open everyday to the public and is well worth a visit (once the cache is done and dusted!). One notable characteristic of the church is the magnificent 'Doom Painting' at the end of the nave. It is one of the few Reformation surviving examples of this tradition and the Mitcheldean painting contains both the Last Judgement and the Passion of Christ.

If you do this cache on a Thursday morning you can often pick up a jar of homemade jam or chutney and a cup of tea inside the church

hats off to Wibsey Wench for being FTF

Cache has been relocated following the loss of the original. It is now within the church grounds and placed with kind permission of the Parish Priest.
