CONGRATS TO G.O.CATS FOR FTF!
This is the site of the former Fields Ferry that was operated by Joseph A. Fields as a way to cross the Tualatin River. Mr. Fields owned the land on both sides of the river. He purchased the license to operate the ferry in 1853 for just $5. He operated the ferry until around 1865, when the first covered Fields Bridge was constructed.
If you come during the winter months, you will likely see the commemorative plaque engraved in a stone that was placed near the ferry landing telling of an explosion on the ferry that killed a person. During the rest of the seasons, the blackberries and native plants tend to grow over the plaque.
Please cache during daylight hours so as not to disturb the homeowner on the adjacent property.
