Sasazuka Kofun Traditional Cache

This cache is at Sasazuka Kofun.
This is the largest square head round foot mound found in the City,of which head faces the west.
On the top of the round foot stands Yakushido.
Although ditches surrounding it is now reclaimed into paddy fields, it is easy to imagine that they originally formed a shield shape assuming from the present foopaths in the fields.
From the surroundings are excavated many clay images and earthenware.
Since it is the earliest typical example of square head round fot mounds built in Utsunomiya, it is attached importance to so as to know ancient culture in those days.
I hide the cache near the Yakushidou.

この古墳は、前方部を西に向けて築かれた前方後墳で、宇都宮市内では最大の規模である。
後円墳の墳頂に薬師堂が建っています。
古墳の周りをめぐる周溝は、現在、水田になっているが、畦道の様子から盾形であったことがわかります。
墳丘の周辺から円筒埴輪や土師器などの破片が出土してました。
本格的な前方後円墳としては、栃木県内では最も早い時期に築かれたもので、当時の古墳文化を知る上から重要な古墳です。
キャッシュは、薬師堂付近に隠しました。
