Ptuj (rimsko Poetovio) se uvršca med najvecja središca mitraizma v Evropi. Tri svetišca so bila odkrita na desnem, dve pa na levem bregu reke Drave. Prvi mitrej je bil postavljen sredi 2. stoletju n. št. Odkrit je bil v letih 1898 - 1899 in je najstarejše Mitrovo središce v obdonavskih provincah. Mitra je arijski (perzijski) bog svetlobe. Njegov misticni kult se je iz Perzije prek Rima razširil na slovensko obmocje. Leta 1901 je bil odkrit drugi mitrej, katerega spomeniki so v kripti dominikanske cerkve na Ptuju. Na Zgornjem Bregu ob potoku Studencnica stoji tretji mitrej, zgrajen sredi 3. stoletju n. št. V mitreju je vec žrtvenikov z reliefi. Rimsko Poetovio predstavljajo tudi ohranjene peci na Rimski ulici in Rimski plošcadi ter vzidani rimski kamni na Prešernovi in Cankarjevi ulici.
Ptuj (Roman Poetovio) rank among the largest in Europe mitraizma center. Three temples have been discovered on the right and two on the left bank of the river Drava. Mithraeum first placed in the middle of the second century. It was discovered in the years 1898 - 1899 and is the oldest center in the Mithras Danube provinces. Mitra is aryan (persian) god of light. His mystical cult of Persia was spread through Rome on Slovenian territory. In 1901 it was discovered another Mithraeum, whose monuments are in the crypt of the Dominican church in Ptuj. On the upper stream bank of the river Drava is standing the third Mithraeum, built in the middle third century. Roman Poetovio represent the furnace maintained at Rimska ulica and Rimska plošcad and platforms built on Roman stones at Cankarjeva Ulica and Prešernova Ulica.
