Geocache Description:

Not too far from the entrance inside of the park. Bushes and grass and no good for wheelchairs or prams although close to concrete pathway.

PLEASE BRING OWN PENCIL
The container is a small tube with a hook on the side to hang. Inside a small log and small coloured paper clips so please take one.

People walk anywhere in this park with or without dogs so you will not seem unusual rambling through any bushes But still be careful taking or placing the cache as so not to be muggled.

Folkestone Park is in a small enjoyable scenery park but it wasn’t always that way.

During WW2 a V2 Rocket fell between two blocks of flats called Folkestone Gardens in Trundleys Road. 52 people died in the explosion.

Both blocks of flats were destroyed as were 5 houses. 10 shops and houses in Trundleys road were severely damage and 8 railway arches used as spinning mills damaged.

The Folkestone Gardens flats belonged to the Southern Railway most if not all of the casualties were railway employees or their dependents.

The site today is the small park.

It’s hard to believe but all round close to the park twenty V1 and V2 Rockets hit.

It’s even harder to imagine today that Rockets could reach here from Europe.

We feel so safe now yet the Rockets we have today are bigger and faster and more frightening 71 years later.
