Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Fredericton Geocaching Tour!

This cache is part of the Fredericton Geocaching Tour.  You are looking for a small container.  In it is a message from the City of Fredericton, a log book, a pencil, and a symbol (for your passport).  Download the passport HERE to track your progress on this series.

There are also rewards to earn on your progress with this series!  After completing 10 caches, you will earn a wooden nickel.  After you've found 20 caches, you will also be awarded with a pathtag.  If you manage to find all 30 caches, you will receive a limited edition locally produced trackable pewter geocoin! (first come / first served for all rewards) to track your progress on this series.

This series is constantly evolving. If there is ever a cache disabled or archived, you can still claim the geocoin for finding the remaining caches. There are currently 28 active caches.

Bienvenue à le Visite de Fredericton Géocachatte!

Cette cache fait partie de la visite de Fredericton par géocache (chasse au trésor GPS). Vous devez chercher un petit contenant. Vous y trouverez un message de la Ville de Fredericton, un carnet de route, un crayon et un autocollant (pour votre passeport). Vous pouvez télécharger le passeport ICI pour suivre votre progression dans cette série.

Vos progrès dans la série peuvent aussi vous valoir des récompenses! Quand vous aurez trouvé 10 caches, vous mériterez une géopièce de 5 ¢ en bois. Quand vous en aurez 20, vous recevrez une petite plaque métallique. Si vous trouvez les 30 caches, vous obtenez une géopièce détectable en étain, produite localement en édition limitée! (Pour toutes les récompenses, le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi s’applique.)

Cette serie évolue continuellement. Si un geocache devient desactivé ou archivé, vous pourrez quand même reclamer les "geocoins" après avoir trouvé les caches qui restent. Il y a 28 geocaches actifs en ce temps.

Government House

This National Historic Site, built in 1828, has been gloriously restored to its earlier splendour and is again the official residence and office of the Province's Lieutenant-Governor. Situated on eleven acres on the banks of the St. John River in Fredericton, it is a significant cultural landmark in Fredericton and the Province of New Brunswick. It is also the backdrop to many large festivals and events including the NB Highland Games and Pow Wow.

Government House contains many artefacts and furnishings, as well as interactive displays, and an art gallery. Guided tours are available daily (May-September) and through the rest of the year by appointment, making this the most accessible Government House in the country.

The site was formerly the location of the 17th century Acadian settlement known as Sainte-Anne. It was here that the trading firm of Baptiste et Martel associés was established in 1692. Located nearby is an early burial ground where both Wolastoquewiyik (Maliseet) and Acadian peoples are buried. Known as Sitansisk, the burial ground is a traditional meeting location for the Peoples of the Wolastoq.		 Résidence du Gouverneur

Construit en 1828, ce site historique national a été restauré à son élégance originale. La maison est à nouveau la résidence du lieutenant-gouverneur de la province. Entourée d'un terrain de 4,5 ha (11 acres) en bordure du fleuve Saint-Jean, elle est un élément important du patrimoine culturel de Fredericton et du Nouveau-Brunswick. Beaucoup de grands festivals et d'activités y sont organisés, entre autres les Jeux Highland du Nouveau-Brunswick et le pow-wow.

La Résidence du Gouverneur comprend de nombreux artefacts et meubles ainsi que des expositions interactives et une galerie d’art. Des visites guidées sont proposées tous les jours de mai à septembre et sur rendez-vous le reste de l'année. C'est la résidence du Gouverneur la plus accessible du pays.

Le terrain faisait jadis partie d’un village acadien du 17e siècle connu sous le nom de Sainte-Anne. C’est également ici que, en 1692, Baptiste et Martel associés ont établi un poste de traite. À proximité de la résidence se trouve un ancien cimetière où reposent côte à côte des Wolastoquewiyik (Malécites) et des Acadiens. Connu sous le nom de Sitansisk, ce lieu de sépulture est un point de rencontre traditionnel pour les peuples du Wolastoq.
