Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Fredericton Geocaching Tour!

This cache is part of the Fredericton Geocaching Tour.  You are looking for a small container.  In it is a message from the City of Fredericton, a log book, a pencil, and a symbol (for your passport).  Download the passport HERE to track your progress on this series.

There are also rewards to earn on your progress with this series!  After completing 10 caches, you will earn a wooden nickel.  After you've found 20 caches, you will also be awarded with a pathtag.  If you manage to find all 30 caches, you will receive a limited edition locally produced trackable pewter geocoin! (first come / first served for all rewards) to track your progress on this series.

This series is constantly evolving. If there is ever a cache disabled or archived, you can still claim the geocoin for finding the remaining caches. There are currently 28 active caches.

Bienvenue à le Visite de Fredericton Géocachatte!

Cette cache fait partie de la visite de Fredericton par géocache (chasse au trésor GPS). Vous devez chercher un petit contenant. Vous y trouverez un message de la Ville de Fredericton, un carnet de route, un crayon et un autocollant (pour votre passeport). Vous pouvez télécharger le passeport ICI pour suivre votre progression dans cette série.

Vos progrès dans la série peuvent aussi vous valoir des récompenses! Quand vous aurez trouvé 10 caches, vous mériterez une géopièce de 5 ¢ en bois. Quand vous en aurez 20, vous recevrez une petite plaque métallique. Si vous trouvez les 30 caches, vous obtenez une géopièce détectable en étain, produite localement en édition limitée! (Pour toutes les récompenses, le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi s’applique.)

Cette serie évolue continuellement. Si un geocache devient desactivé ou archivé, vous pourrez quand même reclamer les "geocoins" après avoir trouvé les caches qui restent. Il y a 28 geocaches actifs en ce temps.

Kaine Creek

Canada Street now crosses Kaine Brook near Dodona Place.  Here the bank becomes deeper and is known as Kaine's Creek.  It flows side by side with the Nashwaak River to join the river near its mouth.  Loaded canoes could be brought up this creek easier than they could be moved around the sandbars in the river.

In 1814 Charles Duff came from the Scottish Highlands.  He brought property and built a tavern near where the bridge now stands.  Travellers going up or down the Nashwaak would spend the night here before going on their journey.  In the N.B. museum there are records of public meetings being held in Duff's tavern in the mid 1800's.

La rue Canada traverse le ruisseau Kaine près de la place Dodona. La berge s'enfonce pour former ce qu'on appelle Kaine Creek. Le ruisseau voisine la rivière Nashwaak pour la rejoindre près de son embouchure. À l'époque, avec des canots chargés, il était plus facile de passer par là que de contourner les barres de sable de la rivière.

En 1814, Charles Duff arrive des Highlands écossaises. Il achète une propriété et construit une taverne près de l'endroit où se trouve aujourd'hui le pont. Les voyageurs qui descendaient ou remontaient la Nashwaak y passaient la nuit avant de repartir. Au Musée du Nouveau-Brunswick, des archives indiquent que des réunions se tenaient à la taverne de Duff au milieu des années 1800.
