Wacker Quay 2 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pajaholic: Checked after a couple of recent DNFs and it's gone. I don't have the necessary container to exactly replace this cache and so I'm archiving it, thus leaving the area free for someone else's hide.

Geocache Description:

Wacker Quay is a local favourite for those seeking a tranquil view and also a popular fishing location. it’s at its most scenic when the tide is in, so you might want to check the tide times before planning to visit.

This cache is a replacement for the original Wacker Quay, which was muggled in September 2011. The old, archived cache page is at http://coord.info/GC21XGP. This cache is a very different hide and so it made sense to archive the old cache and post anew.

Our thanks go to the Wacker Quay Community Group, with who's blessing this cache is placed.

The depression in the ground near GZ is the foundations of a recently-removed corrugated iron building that was once the engine shed for the military railway that used to run from the quay to Scraesdon and Tregantle forts. Local lore told that it still contained a locomotive long after the railway had gone.

Everything below the high water mark is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The cache is well above the high water mark, so please do not disturb the SSSI.

The terrain rating is in recognition of last 50 yards, which can get very muddy after heavy rains. However, it is possible to push a stroller along the path when the ground is reasonably dry for all but the last few yards. Access to the cache area is via a rough road from the layby. There is a height restriction of 7 feet for the rough road, but there is usually adequate parking in the layby.

The cache is a camouflaged micro containing a log sheet and a pencil (but BYOP in case this one's missing).

The safest and most picturesque way to approach this cache is from the bottom level. Follow the rough road with the height restriction down to the bottom level, then take the path at the North-Eastern end of the lower parking area that runs parallel to the layby. The cache is about 30 metres along the path and less than 10 metres from the path.
