There's not much to see at Garsting's Hill Service Reservoir but many folk drive past without even knowing that it's there; yet we all take our water supply for granted.
There is a great view of Slemish and over Ballymena town, especially at night...I have been know to 'rest' here awhile with an ice-cream from the garage down the road. :o) (Ferrero Rocher or Jaffa Cake flavours highly recommended)
Here are a few facts about it - The reservoir has a capacity of 8 megaliters and the pumping station's plant capacity is 5.33Ml/day (1Ml=1 million liters)
The reservoir dates from the 1970s & construction of a new pumping station was completed in 2011. The pumping station supplies water directly into distribution and service the Loan Command Service Reservoir.
The pumping station civil construction works included the installation of:
- 2 no 110Kw High flow horizontally mounted axial pumps,
- 4 No 37Kw Low flow skid mounted vertical multistage pumps,
- Surge vessel and associated compressors &
- New Motor Control Centre & Hardware and Software Control System.
