Geocache Description:

A medium sized snap and lock box located up a steep bank. Please access this cache from the old railway track.

This cache series is a tribute to our beloved dog Cassie who we sadly lost in May 2011. She loved walking in and around Newcastleton and these caches have all been placed along one of her favourite circular walks.

Newcastleton

The planned village of Newcastleton locally titled "Copshawholm" was founded by Henry Scott the 3rd Duke of Buccleuch on the 4th March 1793 taking the place of the original village of Castleton as a centre of development for flax, wool and cotton handloom weaving. Newcastleton is designed in a crisscross of streets with three squares and being in Liddesdale is home to the Armstrong and Elliot's.

In earlier times the Liddesdale valley was referred to Border Reiver Country known then as "The Debated Land". Steeped in history the village has a heritage centre and many more great attractions.

Newcastleton hosts superb local events such as a Music Festival, the Copshaw Common Riding and the famous Holm Show. The magnificent Hermitage castle is just 5 miles from the village with tales of witchcraft and sorcery, a must see attraction for the whole family.
