2012 Platte County Parks Trail Run Competition

In conjunction with National Trails Day we are proud to present the 1st Annual Platte County Trail Run on June 2nd 2012 from 12:30p.m. to 5p.m. starting and ending at English Landing Park, Parkville Mo. It is a 3.5 hour competition that will take you to several parks in Platte County where you will seek out caches and then make it back to the starting point within the allotted time frame. This competition will test your caching skills. It is not just based on finding more caches than the other teams. The caches placed will have different point values based on difficulty, terrain and distance. For example a tough cache could have triple the value in points as an easy one. Strategy and time management will be key factors in doing well.
Here is how it works.
There are 13 caches placed in 4 parks with assigned parking coordinates for each park. An offical score keeper will be at each park that you will have to both check in and out with to verifiy finds and log your teams points collected in that park. Each cache will contain something unique you will be required know, stamp, punch or draw etc. to get credit for it's points. No cache will be an existing one. 6 caches will be published later in the day so there are chances for FTF's on the line as well. There will be at least one puzzle, letterbox, virtual, traditionals and multi-caches. A smart phone will be needed as a must have item for each team. Lastly a lot of time and effort to make all caches worth your while and has been put in to this event, so don't miss out.
The time frame:
12:30pm Team check in, quick Q&A session. A paper copy of all waypoints will be given to each team. You then have until 1pm to enter points into gpsr's and work out your strategy. Everything will be manual. There will be no gpx files or other goodies to give you a quick download. It's all up to you.
1pm. All teams leave English Landing Park.
4:30pm Time deadline to return to the starting point.
4:30pm to 5pm. Prizes to winners handed out.
There are 2 Divisions
Two Cacher Team: Wheel Man (person) & Navigator.
The Cache Mob: All you can fit in one vehicle.
5 basic rules.
Rule 1: Have fun on the trails.
Rule 2: No sharing information with other cachers, basically no cheating. If you’re helping other’s then you’re hurting your chances of victory.
Rule 3: No speeding. Since vehicles are involved be safe and obey all traffic laws.
Rule 4: All teams are limited to one vehicle and no splitting up and heading in separate directions once you are at a park as most all will contain more than one cache. Teams stay together.
Rule 5: Point tie breakers are decided by lowest elapsed time. Example: 2 teams both have 75 points, the team that returned first will win the tiebreaker.
Deadline to sign up teams is 12 noon June 1stth 2012
