Geocache Description:

These caches are on some of the rural roads of Macoupin County. Enjoy the less traveled roads and see some unusual, interesting and historic places.

This cache has been placed at the Shipman Community Park.

Shipman is the home of the Kitchen Klatter Band which was organized in 1952 by a group of local community ladies. The Band was so named because many of the innovative musical instruments they created and played came from various kitchen and household items. Through their entertainment, they have promoted many improvement projects in Shipman including the hot lunch program in the grade school. They acquired, cleaned up and rebuilt the run down City Park and each year sponsor and promote the two day Shipman Picnic and Homecoming which started in 1956. In 1971, they placed and dedicated a War Memorial in the park in honor of all the soldiers who have served in all the wars including both World Wars, Korean Conflict and Vietnam. In 1976, they moved an old country one room school house into town and refurbished it. It is located adjacent to the Bandstand in the Park and is now used as a Reading Center and Library.

The Band along with Mr. and Mrs. John Stampe have built and provided the community with an outstanding Farm and Home Museum which is located just across the street from the Park. The Museum is open for visitation on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is well worth the time to browse through the extensive and interesting historical displays and local memorabilia.

The Park is open from Dawn to Dusk, which is the only time the cache is available. Do not attempt this cache at night!

The container is a camo painted small Magnetic Short Tube Container that holds only a log sheet. It is not a Nano.

Bring a writing instrument to sign the log – This is a small log sheet so sign with date and name only.

Parking is available along the street within 50 feet of the cache.
