Geocache Description:

Small cache near parking and at a trail head to More Mesa used by horseback riders and hikers.

Cache is NOT on private property -- no need to cross any fences.
Parking available where Puente Drive meets Via Huerto.

Watch for muggles on horseback and on foot!

In case the cache isn't easy to retrieve, I've left a small TOTT nearby to help you coax out the cache. Please return it to the same spot.

Via Huerto is a trailhead for one entrance to More Mesa. The greater More Mesa ecosystem includes approximately 400 acres of coastal bluff, grasslands, wetlands, coast live oak and riparian woodlands. The ecosystem includes the Mesa itself, and extends north into the oak and riparian woodlands in the area along Atascadero Creek. The heart of this ecosystem is the 300+ acre coastal bluff, consisting largely of a level terrace vegetated with non-native grassland, and bisected by two large canyons. More Mesa’s extensive grasslands, combined with diverse woodland and wetland habitats, support a wide range of wildlife, especially birds, including sensitive raptors and other grassland dependent species. Because of the variety and quality of the environment, More Mesa is recognized by the State and County as a regionally significant wildlife habitat for several sensitive bird species. More Mesa’s varied habitats also support a range of mammal, reptile, and amphibian species, including rare or declining species such as the silvery legless lizard and western pond turtle.
