4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This cache was put out as part of a series of mixed caches in a closely set location that will help people like us, who had done the "other" caches before looking at the ABCDEFG challenge, to have a chance to master it after all...

Pythagoras of Samos and Euclid of Alexandria were two Greeks, who lived a long time ago and who knew their maths. To get to the cache, which is NOT at the given coordinates, you will need to dig out your maths, which is based on what these two fellows taught...

The cache is at
S 34 57.xyz
E 117 54.q
In a right angled triangle the sides are A=3 B=4 C=?

To work out the last three digits in the coordinates, calculate the following:
x=C+B
y=C+1-A
z=C-1
q=2*(the total number of degrees in a triangle)-27.
        (For the historians amongst you, it is also the year Alexander the Great won a battle at Issos.)

I know, this is easy, compared to some of the puzzle caches around town, but we hope you enjoy anyway :-)

The cache is set in a Class A Nature Reserve (No Cars, No Motorbikes allowed) with beautiful wildflowers in season and some tracks to ride a horse or walk a dog. Unfortunately it is also used by some keen bikers, which can be a bit of a nuisance at times, but it is generally a peaceful place to be.

PS: The cache is approx 8m off the main track along a Kangaroo track.
Please take care when re-hiding the cache - you know why ;-)
If you do all 3 caches in one hit we suggest you park at S 34 57.663 E 117 54.560 and make it a loop walk.

Since we have put out some more caches in the area, this cache has become part of the series Orion, which is a star constellation. This cache represents the star Alnilam, one of the "belt" stars in the constellation. It contains a clue on the logbook cover to help you find the final star in the series. Good Luck!
