Geocache Description:

Hale lighthouse that you see standing today dates from 1906. It replaced a shorter tower built earlier in 1838. The tower is 45 foot high and the beam could be seen from as far as 40 miles away. Limited parking is available at the bottom of church rd, although its well worth parking in the village and walking down. The footpath to the lighthouse is gravel so buggies and wheelchairs may have a bumpy ride.

The lighthouse was last used in 1958 when it was decommissioned. The main lamp/light now stands in the merseyside maritime museum, in Liverpool on the Albert dock.
The lighthouse is situated on the banks of the Mersey sitting proudly on the sandstone cliffs, its whitewashed needle pin tower pointing skywards.
It is the most southerly point of the traditional county of Lancashire. No legislation has ever changed the boundries of Britains traditional counties, only administrative areas were changed by Acts of Parliament.The river Mersey is still the boundry between the traditional counties of Lancashire and Cheshire
The cache contains;
Shrek travel bug
large dice
pokemon taz
2 small lapel badges
small police car
log book and pen

The log book is very small so I would appreciate a mention in your log when it is nearly full so I can replace.
Please do not remove the item within which the log is housed.
