Lung Shan is one of the highest peaks overlooking Fanling.
Lung Shan is located near Fanling, and from its peak you have a great view of the Fanling and Ta Kwu Ling to the north, and Tai Po district to the south. The highrises from Shenzhen are also well visible (as long as the air pollution is not too bad).
The hill is just about 360m tall, yet the climb up is not easy as it's a really steep one. It is also not a very popular climb apparently, as we could not find the paths given on the Countryside Maps series from Lung Yeuk Tau leading up to this hill. There must be some access there as we later saw trails coming from that direction. Following them down may be an easier way.
Another access route is via Kat Tsai Shan Au, from there take the abandoned road on your left up the hill. Near the end of the road you will find a very steep trail up the hill (well marked with ribbons), which leads to the trail crossing the peaks, and to the cache.
The trails are heavily overgrown at times, for experienced hikers only. There is no easy access to this peak.
On the peaks we found two underground shelters: one under the trig point, the other at the slightly higher peak nearby. The abandoned road as described above leads up this mountain, but not to the peaks. It's obviously an old road, but why and when it was built, and why and when these two shelters were built is unknown to me. The most sensible would be observation post, but then there is no view from inside those two rooms as they are completely underground. If anyone has any idea on what this peak was used for, please do leave a note.
The cache is a small box containing just a log, BYOP. There is space for small items and travellers.
