LIPOVNIK

SK:
Kostol sv. Jana Krstitela postavili v romanskom slohu, pravdepodobne na prelome 12./13. storocia. V 14. storoci postavili polygonalnu svatynu a pravdepodobne vtedy ho vyzdobili nastennymi malbami.

EN:
The church of St. John the Baptist was built in Romanesque Style about the turn of the 12th/13th centuries. In the 14th century a polygonal presbytery was added and the interior was decorated with wall-paintings. During the 16th-17th centuries the Protestants used the church, and it was returned to the Roman-catholics in 1662, since then it has been an important pilgrimage site. At the end of the 19th century there was a Neogothic renewal and the tower was added. In the 70-ties of the 20th century the restorers realized a few sonds and discovered rests of medieval wall-paintings in the presbytery interior, but there is unveiled only the Nativity scene on the northern wall. In the 80-ties the facades were restored – you may see the Romanesque stone masonry and narrow window frames on the southern side. At the same time archaeologists discovered the foundations of a double-apse chapel on the northern side of the nave – these murals are now covered under the terrain.
