Since I've been in New Zealand, I've felt quite a few shakes. Of course, nothing like the big ones that happened before I got here.
I started to do some Internet searching on earthquake activity in NZ, and was amazed how active the country is.
One of the best sites I've found for NZ quakes, and Canterbury shakes in particular, is GeoNet . They have a very thorough page with Canterbury Quake Info, which gives a good description of the tectonic situation, a short history of recent activity, and much more.
Another site provides a very effective interactive map which plays back the quake information on a map.
