Geocache Description:

A Cache placed along a public footpath leading to Berrow Beach from Berrow church.  The cache is a small tuperware container with a logbook and only room for geocoins or tb's no bigger than the dogtag.  *Please bring a pen

The SS Nornen

The cache is placed next to the beach which is well worth a walk and an explore!  If you carry along the path from the cache, you will come onto Berrow Beach, and at low tide you will see wreck of the SS Nornen, stranded here in 1897 when on March 3rd a gale gusted up the channel and created high seas.  All 10 crew and their dog were rescued by a Burnham lifeboat.  Today the 'bones' of the ship are still visible in the mud flats.

Dogs and horses are welcome on the beach here.  But please be aware of tide times and sinking sand and mud here, also wear suitable footware if exploring the wreck. There is plenty of Bird life along the beach, and walks can be had along the golf course and through the sand dunes.

The easiest and quickest route to the cache is from parking at Berrow church, which you are allowed to park at for short walks locally.  If wishing to have a proper explore of the Wreck then please check the tide times.

Thanks to Burnham & Berrow golf club, and the Somerset & Blackdowns Team (SSSI land) for permission to place this cache.

Congratulations to Wiltshires193 for being the FTF
